:: News: Chinese Explorers Discovered America..
Posted on Friday, March 08, 2002 @ 10:08:07 EST
News

Marco writes: "According to Gavin Menzies, a British historian and map expert, Chinese explorers discovered America way before Columbus did. Since Columbus and Magellan acknowleged they have used maps during their exploration, he wants to show these maps were drawn by others who have discovered the continent way before them..
Now I'm thinking, It might very well be that the Chinese discovered California for China way before Columbus discovered Florida for Spain. But if there were already people living here (Native Americans), doesn't that mean the area was already discovered? I've always had problem with the politic behind history.
Do you think the world is ready to accept this new findings? That is if Mr Menzies is right and can really prove it."

:: Men & Women In Haitian Society.
Posted on Friday, March 01, 2002 @ 16:22:40 EST
Editorial

Panoramix writes: "This article is written from a male prospective and I will be happy to find comments or, a follow up article, from a female prospective.

I've spent most of my life in Haiti, and I've witnessed and experienced relationships between men and women. Even as early as 14 years old, the Haitian boys receive invitations from the young house maids. The maids will flash them on every chance they get, they'll use every opportunity to expose their naked body to the boy. If the boy shows an interest, they will facilitate the sexual encounter. Then comes the time when the young man starts driving, he teams up with a few friends, no more than three and they start meeting girls, the objective is to have as many girlfriends as possible. Then eventually comes the night life, clubbing, drinking and prostitution. Some men get stuck in that phase longer than others. By the time they enter the professional life, they are ready to settle down. But as soon as they enter the professional world they are virtually attacked by women. They go as far as getting their phone number, calling them on the phone and asking them for a date. Some parents will check them out for their daughters. After they get married the saga continues and only real love can keep them faithful. "

:: News: Federal Court Overtuned Convictions In The Louima Torture.
Posted on Friday, March 01, 2002 @ 14:55:48 EST
News

Marco writes: "If you are Haitian or live in New York or if you have ever watched the news. The name Abner Louima should ring the bell as he is considered one of the worst police brutality cases in U.S. history.
In Aug. 9th 1997, a handcuffed Louima was pinned down and sodomized with a broken broomstick in a N.Y. police department's bathroom.
Now 2 1/2 years after the conviction of 4 police officers who have participated in the brutality of Louima, last thursday a federal appeals court overturned the convictions of three of them, on findings that they were insufficient evidence they've obstructed justice.
Now how many of you part with what the attorney for one of the officers said that justice was served and it was the right decision by the federal court or do you feel the same as Al Sharpton said about the ruling, "a shocking display of how the judicial system continues to fail to protect citizens from police abuse." :: Opinion: What Is Your Price?
Posted on Thursday, February 28, 2002 @ 18:29:30 EST
Money

Marco writes: "Money makes the world turns, Money is God to some and a necessity to others. Some would do anything for money others claim they would not. Pesonally, I love money as in I love the food I eat, where I live, women, etc. I need money so I can buy the necessities of life. Everything I need, requires money, heck to post this on here even cost me money but I have a set of principles, morales and enough respect for myself not to let money dictate the things I would do for it. But at the same time one can't ever say never and my logic is everyone has a price and depends where you are at a certain period of your life, you'll be amazed what you'll do for money.
For the hardcore believers that flat out claim they would not go the extra for money are in denial and need to re-think. It all comes down to this, the right price has not been offered to you yet.
If you want to stay true to your beliefs, you best not let anyone offer you money. $10, 100 million, might not be your price to peform certain tasks but you'll reach an amount where the power of money, temptation and greed which is part of human nature, will make you start scratching your head and eventually would drop your guard and or integrity."

:: Studies: Gender Differences In Math Solving Problems.

Education

Goldenchild writes: "Below is a partial transcript of an article from apa.org where they finally admitted males are the dominated group when it comes to math solving problems.

WASHINGTON -- Just say the word math and some people roll their eyes or shake their heads. America's school children in particular are not known for their abilities in the subject. Two new studies in the June issue of the Journal of Educational Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA), look at gender differences in math learning in elementary school and the role social pressure plays in math achievement for adolescents.

Boys and Girls Think Differently When It Comes to Problem Solving For decades researchers and educators have discussed gender differences in math abilities among American children. A new study shows that, as early as first grade, differences exist in the strategies boys and girls use to solve math problems. "

Drlove writes: "A feature article in USA today, quoting a well recognized authority, catches my eyes. It said:"With the increase in the divorce rate, the increase in the age at which people first get married and with our increasing longevity, the experience of being single is now one of the most widely shared experiences of adulthood". So says Bella DePaulo, visiting professor of Psychology at the University of Carlifornia at Santa Barbara.
Nearly 10 percent of Americans live alone. If you add those who are cohabiting, whether in college dorms or elwhere like Panoramix and Marco, the ranks of singles swells well even more: From 38 million in 1970(before I was conceived) to 82 million in 2000 ( I'm still not married with kids). Single constitute about 40 percent of the US adult population.
In Genesis 2:18 GOD makes it clear that:"It is not good for the man to be alone." This is wisdom of our creator, who knows us better than we know ourselves. "
