Most Asians and Hispanics believe the American dream can be achieved through hard work, while blacks remain skeptical of equal opportunities to succeed, according to a recent poll.
Seventy-four percent of Hispanics and 64 percent of Asians believe that "if you work hard, you will succeed in the United States," while more than 60 percent of blacks said they "do not believe the American dream works for them," a poll by New America Media, a nationwide association of ethnic media organizations, reported.

I was pretty shocked today when I heard the news that this lady passed away at the tender age of 44. According to the article, the saddest part is, she passed away from lung cancer and she didnt even smoke! So Sad....
I always admired the fact that she stood by her late husband
actor Christopher Reeves through thick and thin, during his paralysis and illness all those years.

It proved she wasnt just in it for the money. They had a true genuine
love for each other. Especially her for him, she really took those wedding vows literally and was there for him through sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, and finally till death do them part.
And it did, but apparently not for long, they are finally together again"

During a radio interview Tuesday night in Detroit, he told WXYT-AM that his alma mater (University of Notre Dame) has to "ease it up a little bit" on its standards. He went on to say, "We can't stay as strict as we are as far as the academic structure is concerned because we've got to get the black athlete...we must get the black athlete if we're going to compete."
Were people outraged by this comment...of course! Blacks say his comment was insulting. Hornung later said that he regretted the comment. "I don't know if it was insulting, I would say insensitive. It was insensitive because I didn't include the white athletes," he said"

The official census taken on the 20th day of school shows that black students now account for 36 percent of the districts total 271, 339 students. White students account for 35 percent. Last year Whites made up 37.2 percent while Blacks made up 35 percent. A merely one percent increase, you say? True but a change nonetheless!
Officials say these results from the increasing numbers of Caribbean families moving into the area and the exit and dropping out of White students.

I couldn't quite get the name. Nope...I couldn't picture who that was until I saw the news. Gregory Hines! Oh yes now I know....(sudden sadness)....Damn....first Barry White now you....
The man was not only a legendary dancer but also an award-winning singer and actor. Mr. Hines passed away Saturday (August 9, 2003) after his battle with cancer was lost.

Though he's most known for his films and TV work, Mr. Hines originally came into fame dancing with his brother and father in the group "Hines, Hines and Father." He and his brother, Maurice, later went on to international fame with their moves in the musical revue "Eubie." Soon after, there was an argument that resulted in the two brothers not speaking for many years."

Marco writes: "According to a new study by proffessors at the University of Chicago and MIT, they find that resumes with so-called "white-sounding" names got 50 percent more responses than ones with so-called "black-sounding" names.
The professors sent about 5,000 resumes in response to want ads in the Boston Globe and Chicago Tribune and they found that white-sounding names "like Neil, Brett, Emily and Jil" applicants received one response for every 10 resumes sent out; while black-sounding names "like Tamika, Ebony, Kareem and Tyrone" with equal credentials received one response for every 15 resumes. The study's authors say their findings indicate that substantial discrimination still exists in job recruitment.

What do you guys think? is this a form of covert racism or is just a stereotypical mind set even black employers would have as well by associating those so-called black names with "ghettoism"? Your thought!!"

Marco writes: "If you have been following the news lately, you may have heard of Deadria Farmer-Paellmann, a New York slave reparations activist who is seeking unspecified damages in a pending lawsuit that names eight major corporations (Aetna Inc., CSX Corp., FleetBoston Financial Corp. and others ) for unjustly profiting from the slave trade before the Civil War ended in 1865.

Now I'm not so for financial reparation to Blacks as it will do nothing but hurt us in the long run. Since we are also tax payers, a quarter of that money will come out of our own pockets. Although I'm against finacial reparation but those "40 acres and a mule" were promissed but were never given.
Anyway, I think redemption in the form of acknowledgement of the 400 years of oppression is the way to go. Any country that participated in the slave trades, need to come forward and acknowledge the fact that slavery was one of the worst crime in the world ever committed against a race and hopefully will promote a frank and honest discussion across the racial divide. The Jews got redeemed; I wonder when Blacks will get theirs."
