:: Studies: Asians, Hispanics Believe In The American Dream More Than Blacks
Posted on Tuesday, January 01, 2008 @ 12:27:20 EST
News

Most Asians and Hispanics believe the American dream can be achieved through hard work, while blacks remain skeptical of equal opportunities to succeed, according to a recent poll.
Seventy-four percent of Hispanics and 64 percent of Asians believe that "if you work hard, you will succeed in the United States," while more than 60 percent of blacks said they "do not believe the American dream works for them," a poll by New America Media, a nationwide association of ethnic media organizations, reported.

Phoenixp3k writes: "I loved the first movie, enjoyed the second one but what about the third? The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was released on DVD recently and here is my review.
This movie is seriously different from the previous ones. Tokyo Drift takes place outside the U.S. and brings a complete new cast. Since its not to be considered a sequel (except from a small cameo role) this movie could have been named totally different. As usual, the cars are slick, look way cool and obviously the booth babes that come with them are sexy. Unlike its predecessors, this movie has little substance; there is no plot! I mean its so slim compared to what we could experience before. The themes of treason, love and honor are barely touched. The movie is really light and is not to be taken seriously. I did notice that they did not use a lot of CG elements and there was not as much focus on the cars themselves. I felt alienated by the soundtrack; where is the theme song?! I guess the first movie had such and impact on me."

Phoenixp3k writes: "Many people nowadays know that without a good firewall on their computers, they are potentially at risks of being hacked. However, this review is about the movie Firewall in which, a security specialist (starring Harrison Ford) is forced into robbing the bank that he is protecting, as a bid to pay off his family's ransom. Now I clearly remember being interested by the initial trailer but was quickly reminded that there are tons of movies of this genre out there in which families are held hostage in exchange for some kind of ransom. So I kind of dismissed it as another pseudo-thriller that follows the typical script."

Sex & Romance

Caramela writes: "I came across this article regarding romance at work. Personally, I have this "I dont sh*t where I eat rule, so I really dont date people that I work with. When the opportunity does present itself all I can do is have flashbacks of the future. I always find myself imagining that if things dont work out; I would have to deal with that "weird" feeling of having to come in contact with this person 5 days a week.

It's a double ended sword because I would probably still have the same "weird" feeling if things do workout and having to deal with this person both inside and outside of work hours. Unless we work different departments and cant help to think about how smothering that can be. I kind of like to have balance in my life.

Well, If by some strange miracle I happen to find myself in a situation where I actually am dating someone from work (U know what they say, never say never). I'll be sure to incorporate the rules the article mentions throughout the course of the relationship."

Caramela writes: "Wow I can't believe he came to her as my mom would say.
I was pretty shocked today when I heard the news that this lady passed away at the tender age of 44. According to the article, the saddest part is, she passed away from lung cancer and she didnt even smoke! So Sad....
I always admired the fact that she stood by her late husband
actor Christopher Reeves through thick and thin, during his paralysis and illness all those years.

It proved she wasnt just in it for the money. They had a true genuine
love for each other. Especially her for him, she reallytook those wedding vows literally and was there for him through sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, and finally till death do them part.
And it did, but apparently not for long, they are finally together again"

:: News: McDonald's Sued Over French Fry Ingredients

Caramela writes: "I used to Looove me some McDonalds fries.. Thank goodness I stopped eating those things a few years ago.

I remember I had this Indian Chemistry teacher that filed a class action lawsuit, along with her vegetarian Indian community concerning their fries.
Apparently, McDonalds were marketting their fries as a vegetarian-friendly food, while they still were frying their fries in the same grease as their burgers and chicken.
It was big news around here, and they eventually won the case against McDonalds.

That was only a few years ago, and now it looks as if there is yet again more trouble for the Golden Arches regarding their fries. Read On....."

Education

Vicky writes: "According to an article running on ecampustours.com "College can be a very demanding time for students. Professors, class projects, and extracurricular activities can all contribute to a stressed-out college student. From schoolwork to social problems, students can sometimes become so overwhelmed that they do not know how to efficiently manage their stressful situations. These tips can help keep college stress at a minimum before it becomes too hard to handle..."

College life can be either the best experience of a lifetime or a nightmare. Living on campus can be fun, and also add to the stess. Although, it's highly reccommended that students should take the oppurtunity to live on campus. Most students can learn and practice how to make good decision making skills.
There are a few basic steps in having a sucessful campus life. Some of them are...

- Getting organized
- Prioritize your schoolwork
- Taking time to relax
- Realize that its okay to say no."
